STAVES:
For the purpose of the course we will mainly be writing music on a five line staff – THE TREBLE CLEF. Here are the notes for the treble clef.
Notes: Music notation tells us two things about a note – its PITCH and its RYTHYM. PITCH is defined by where the note is on the staff – if a note is placed on the third line of the treble clef its pitch is B.
E.g. Writing a note of the third space of the staff below would give us C.
RYTHYM is defined by the type of notes we write.
= four beats and is called a whole note or semibreve.
= two beats and is called a half note or minim.
= one beat and is called a quarter note or crotchet.
= half a beat and is called an eighth note or quaver.
= quarter of a beat and is called a sixteenth note or semiquaver.
Topp Strings has been set up with one thing in mind, that is to encourage people to pick up the guitar and have a go.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, we all need a helping hand and a different perspective sometimes.
