ABOUT TOPPSTRINGS:

Guitar Teacher: Jeff Topp
Jeff has been involved in the music industry for a number of years now and works as a full-time guitarist and teacher. He is also involved in a number of bands throughout the South East.

He is currently teaching at Bexhill College and Claverham Community College, where he teaches “A” and “AS” level students and also runs workshops for adult education classes. He also teaches through the county for the East Sussex Music Service.

He is a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT), which is a recognised organisation for tutors throughout the UK. Also he is a member of the Musicians Union.

As a member of the union; he is covered by public liability insurance and has a full certificate of disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

His approach to teaching differs from other tutors. Majority of people that Jeff teaches just want to better them selves or just impress friends and family with their playing skills and don't want to learn theory.

Theory is a word that scares most beginners and sometimes puts them off using an instrument. So he teaches technique first (unless a student specifically wants to learn theory that is!).

By teaching technique first, students will be able to play chords, scales and songs in a relatively short space of time. The theory will come naturally as the student learns about the actual technique of playing the guitar rather than reading and learning theory first.

Topp Strings has been set up with one thing in mind, that is to encourage people to pick up the guitar and have a go.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, we all need a helping hand and a different perspective sometimes.
